Aniko on the daily walk

After a week in California, it was time to head to Columbus for a half marathon. Vickie and Cindy would be running their very first full marathon. Shari and I would run the half. We had booked a room at the Westin, but when we arrived, the man at the front desk told us he had good news and bad news. The good news was that they had our reservation. The bad news is that they didn't actually have any rooms available. He went on to say that they would be paying for our room and parking at the Drury down the road. While the Westin would have been nice, it saved us all a chunk of change.
It was a cold morning starting out in the upper 30s. We headed toward the start with 11,000+ other people. When you have that many people standing that close to each other, it doesn't stay cold too long. The people in front of us started moving, and we were on our way to beginning our foot tour of Columbus. One of the best parts of doing a big run in a big city is getting to run down the middle of streets that are normally filled with cars. The course was mostly flat, and there were a lot of bands along the route. At mile 7, Shari and I tried a Cliff Shot gel. While I like Cliff Shot Blocks, I have to say that I am not a fan of their gel. Ugh! Thick thick thick. I could really feel the the two runs I had done the previous weekend in my legs during the last few miles. (What I also didn't know was that I had a sinus infection brewing.) After the run, we had the royal treatment! Cathy, a friend of Cindy, came along for support. Cathy also happens to be a massage therapist. While Cindy and Vickie were out there still pounding out the miles, Shari and I were relaxing and getting muscle rubs. Not a bad deal if you can get it!
